When Draper's Nick Price dragged his dad's old drum set out of the basement nine years ago, he started on a journey that may end in fame bigger than he imagined.

The 22-year-old Price is the drummer for the up-and-coming band Meg & Dia that performed on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly Sept. 20.

"It was huge," Price said. It was so much fun and really one of the most amazing experiences of our lives."

The band -- which includes Price, sisters Meg and Dia Frampton of Sandy, guitarist Kenji Chan who recently moved to Draper, and bass player Aaron McMurray of Salt Lake -- signed with the record label Doghouse Records in 2005. The group's album "Something Real" is for sale at major music retailers.

Price met Meg Frampton when he gave her a car repair estimate at his family's shop in Sandy two years ago.

"I had heard about Meg and Dia from my friend and recognized her," Price said. "I asked for a CD and told her I was a drummer. She told me that she and her sister wanted to put together a band, and I went and jammed with them."

Now the band is working on getting "radio play" through touring and building up a fan base.

"We're signed with an independent label, but we need major label backing to get radio play," Price said. "Right now we're working on building up our album sales and getting as much exposure as we can until we get noticed by a major label."

Meg & Dia's latest tour started Sept. 26 and will go till Nov. 26, taking the band to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, Nebraska, Neada, Texas, Arkansas, South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, New York and Canada. Although all of the members call Utah home, their one stop in their home state this tour will be in Provo on Monday, Oct. 2.

"We're hoping to eventually tour for nine months out of the year," Price said.

The songs, which are described by Meg Frampton as "pop" with an "edgy sound," are entirely written by the group.

"Meg comes up with ideas for the songs and writes the guitar and vocal melodies," Price said. "Dia usually writes the lyrics, and we listen to the song and add our parts to it. Dia is the lead vocalist and Meg is the back-up vocalist and plays guitar and sometimes piano."

The group seems to be on the fast track to fame, with one single in the top 100 for college stations, an appearance on national television and a great fan base. Price said being part of Meg & Dia is a dream come true.

"It's what I've always wanted," Price said. "I couldn't be happier with the members of the band. I love the music, and every day I wake up so happy to be a part of it."
